I Count Because I Care About My Community
Every ten years, we are given the opportunity to be counted as New Mexicans – giving voice to our vibrant communities and resilient people. What really matters is ensuring every community – families and children, parents and grandparents, workers and students – has every single opportunity to lead a healthy, happy and productive life.
Get Counted
The U.S. Census asks just 10 questions and takes 10 minutes to respond. By April 1, 2020, households should receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. You’ll then have three options for responding: online, by mail, or by phone.
How can i Help
Achieving a complete and accurate count of all New Mexicans, requires the participation and collaboration of all New Mexicans, including partners at the state, tribal, and local level to count everyone once, only once, and in the right place.
English is not my first language
The Statewide Complete Count Commission has eight Tribal language audio recordings that can be downloaded to your phone or tablet to assist in filling out the form or before heading out to your community to encourage others to fill it out.
Upcoming Events
Mostly importantly, encourage your community to respond to the census online beginning March 12, 2020. Here you will find a full schedule of meetings and events related to the census count in New Mexico.
Every Voice Matters in New Mexico.
One of the best ways to ensure all communities in New Mexico are treated fairly in the distribution of public goods and services is to ensure they are equally represented. This starts with ensuring all New Mexicans are counted at the residence where they live and sleep most of the time on April 1, 2020.
How do I get counted?
Everyone must complete the 2020 Census. If you live in the United States, you are required by law to participate in the 2020 count, even if you recently completed another survey from the Census Bureau. If you do not respond, the U.S. Census Bureau will follow up in person to collect the information.

My Voice. My Community. My New Mexico.
Data from the census are used to divide over $800 billion dollars of government funding for important services, like schools, libraries, food stamps, and health care. Data from the census are also used to divide up political representation in Congress, in your state capitol, and in cities and towns across New Mexico. A complete count means fair representation for your community. Starting on March 12, 2020, make sure that you are counted to get your fair share of resources and representation. Your community is counting on you!
