Cabinet Secretary, New Mexico Indian Affairs Department

“The diverse cultural tapestry of our state is a source of pride for every New Mexican. That diversity is no more apparent than in our tribal communities. Across 23 sovereign tribal nations, in 12 counties and in 8 native languages our tribal citizens continue to maintain distinct cultures and traditions. Through the 2020 Census we can ensure that all the people in our state can stand up and be counted. The Census is a critical opportunity for the state and tribes to ensure that we have representation and access to federal resources. For the sake of our children, our elders and all the native citizens of our state we must get a full and complete count. Because Indian Country counts!”
